Puppies
Pure
The “Pure” in Pure Parti Poodles stands for two things. First, our dogs are 100% purebred poodles. And second, all of our dams and sires are genetically clear of diseases. Meaning, all of our puppies are genetically CLEAR through parentage including CDDY/IVDD, (which effects 60% of Miniature Poodles).
What is CDDY and IVDD
Canine Degenerative Disc Disease (CDDY) is abnormal cartilage and bone growth that starts to degenerate and calcify the cartilage discs of the spine. This can start in dogs as young as a year old, and only one copy of CDDY is needed to put your dog at risk. CDDY leads to an increased risk of your dog developing Intervertebral disc disease (IVDD). This means a disc in the spine has had a herniation or rupture which may cause your dog to have irreversible spinal cord damage. This causes your dog to have symptoms such as pain, trouble walking, and paralysis (which makes the dog unable to use the bathroom on their own). CDDY effects 60% of miniature poodles.
Here are the articles I've cited from
Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS)
ENS exercises were developed to raise the proficiency of military working dogs. It has been shown to improve cardiovascular health, better stress resistance, strengthen adrenal glands, (which are responsible for blood sugar and pressure) and to boost disease resistance.
Visiting the Vet
Our puppies go to the vet at 7-8 weeks of age before going home to you. At the vet they will receieve a comprehensive pet exam to ensure they are healthy before being picked up by you. During this visit they will also receive their first round of puppy vaccinations. We will continue the vaccinations until that responsibility shifts to the adopters.
Where they live
Our puppies live in the heart of the home with us. They are watched and taken care of all day long, being held, played with, and working on potty and crate training.
Grooming
All of our dogs receive top hygienic care. At 5 weeks old once their bodies have strengthened we begin regular bathing about every 5 days. They also begin nail clipping, practice getting their fur brushed, and ears cleaned.
Tail Docking
At Pure Parti Poodles we do not dock our tails. We understand tail docking is a common practice here in the US, but it is banned in many European countries. We made this decision for ourselves as breeders due to multiple reasons. First, dogs use their tails for communication to both other dogs and people. Having a part of their tail gone can limit a dog’s ability to express itself. In addition, the tail docking procedure conducted in the neonatal period, (when the nervous system is vulnerable) can have altering affects on how pain is processed when the dog is older. Ultimately, we thought this was the choice we felt the most comfortable with as breeders.
